I’m starting my first guitar with a kit from LMI. I have a good amount of woodworking experience and a well equipped small shop.
This all got put in motion when my wife asked me what I would put in a man cave. I replied out of nowhere “ a huge Marshall amp and an electric guitar, even though I haven’t played in 20 years. So I pulled the old dreadnaught out from under the bed and started strumming. Then I went to about.com and took beginner lessons. In the meantime a friend needed money so I bought his Epi LP and fell in love. This made me realize that the dread was way too big for me so again out of the blue I decided to build.
My first thought was to research the best books for the project so I bought Cumpiano and Kinkeads books and started crackin’. My other brilliant idea was to make it out of wood I have laying around, which brought very strange looks from everyone I told. So I started by trying what I had to work with, this ended up as what I will now refer to as practice.
Anyway my kit shows up today and I’ll be back looking for help so here’s and advance thanks.

Don't do it man! Get out while you still can! Once you start that kit, nothing else matters! Your wife, kids, hygiene, friends...they will all become secondary to building guitars. Maybe not your hygiene, but that other stuff. Do you want to know what my first kit cost me? Over $15,000 so far. If I had a time machine, I would go back in time and just buy a nice guitar. It would have been cheaper!

Just kidding. Enjoy and post lots of pics. Never be afraid to ask for help either. We wont laugh too much before giving you the help you need!

[uncle] Thanks for the installation of a healthy fear factor. I started reading your reply at the same time Fedex showed up with my kit, I sent the kit back then and there. Then came in read the rest and chased him around town to get it back after I finished reading. Just kidding, thanks for the encouragement.
